"Soul Quest" yakni film menurut cerita konkret yang terinspirasi dari buku dengan judul yang sama, di latar belakangi cerita seorang anak insan yang lahir tahun 1956 di Solo, Jawa tengah berjulukan Krishna Gangtani yang lalu di kenal dengan nama Anand Krishna, seorang tokoh spiritual lintas agama dan penulis buku produktif.

Di usianya yang ke-9 ia mengikuti orang tuanya pindah ke India tepatnya di Lucknow (wilayah India yang berbudaya Islam) dan di sana ia memulai perjalanan spiritual dengan memperpelajari Alquran dari seorang sufi berjulukan Syekh Baba yang bekerja sebagai penjual es balok.

Di kawasan itu pula Krishna muda jatuh cinta kepada seorang gadis cukup hanya dengan melihat kehalusan telapak tangan dan kelembutan suaranya.

Dari sana Krisha pun berguru terus dan berpindah dari satu guru ke guru yang lain. Sampai ia berusia 19 tahun, ia 'bertemu' dengan seorang guru yang sangat populer di India, yaitu Sai Baba. Di usianya yang ke 26 Krishna Krishna menjadi pengusaha garmen yang sukses sambil melanjutkan perjalanan spiritualnya sebagai penyeimbang hidup.

Puncaknya yakni pada ketika Krishna di vonis mempunyai penyakit leukimia (kanker darah) dan "dipaksa" untuk "bertatap muka" dengan kematiannya.

namun dalam pencariannya hal asing terjadi pada dirinya dan mendapati ia sembuh total dari penyakit leukimia, dari situ kemudia Krisha mulai meninggalkan usahanya dan mengabdikan diri pada dunia spiritual dan jalan meditasi.

Menelusuri kembali babak gres kehidupannya untuk lalu menemukan "kehidupan" yang sesungguhnya.
